Mysore Program with Johny Haag

What is Mysore-Style Ashtanga Yoga?

Mysore-style is the traditional and most effective way to learn Ashtanga Yoga. It offers a customized approach in a group setting:

  • Learn at your own pace: Johnny will teach you the sequence step-by-step, adding postures as you progress.

  • Focus on alignment and breath: Develop a strong, mindful practice with attention to detail.

  • Receive hands-on adjustments: Tailored support to help you grow safely and confidently.

  • For everyone: Modifications and guidance are provided to suit individual needs and abilities.

Do I need to memorize the Ashtanga sequence?

Yes, memorizing the Ashtanga sequence is essential for practicing. It helps create a deeper connection to the flow, promotes independence, and allows the practice to become meditative over time.

What's the difference between Asthanga Mysore and Led classes?

In Mysore classes, students practice the Ashtanga sequence at their own pace with personalized guidance and adjustments from the teacher, making it ideal for learning and progressing individually. In contrast, Led classes are teacher-guided, with everyone moving through the sequence together at a set pace, focusing on synchronization, discipline, and refining technique. Both styles complement each other, with Mysore offering a self-paced approach and Led classes reinforcing group rhythm and structure.

What are the benefits of practicing Ashtanga in Mysore setting?

Practicing Ashtanga in a Mysore setting offers personalized attention, allowing you to learn postures with focus on detail. You move at your own pace, breathing naturally, while receiving hands-on adjustments to refine your practice.

Can I practice mysore Ashtanga if I have/had an injury?

Yes, you can practice Mysore Ashtanga if you have or have had an injury. The Mysore setting allows for a personalized approach, where the teacher can provide modifications and hands-on adjustments to accommodate your needs. It’s important to communicate your injury to the teacher so they can guide you safely through the practice, ensuring you avoid strain while still progressing.
